Basketballitis is a very common condition caused by a parasite infecting the female of the species, making her become energy sapped, waddallie and causing her to swell up in the abdominal area (to the stage of people thinking she drink more than one Guinness a day). This does not last long, oh no, it quickly changes to beachballitis. This is my favourite partially due to fact that the patient can be used as a magic float in the pool if you are not that strong a swimmer. Also, whilst on the edge of the pool, funny comments about pushing her back in after getting herself beached get a laugh every time. Really.. Fiona is now officially big!
9 days to go to due date, that's just over a week. As I am writing this, the reality really strikes home. I have just taken a bite out of the chair I am sitting on (and I do not mean with my teeth!). I do hope the tears that have just landed on the keyboard do not result in the computer giving me a shock. Of course these are tears of joy!

I know everything there is to know about babies in the womb, birthing etc. A total specialist now. While many of you were out on Friday night, partying the night away, shaking your thang, meeting interesting new people etc., 'Nesting mode' Donson and myself were sitting in watching the discovery channel. Friday nights are going to be sooo much fun from now on. We had stayed in on purpose, to watch a documentary on 'life in the womb'. We waited up for it (even tho it was on at only 9pm). Worse still is that we texted friends in Bangkok, themselves waiting for their big day, to tell them the program was on but they were already watching it.

Part of my immense knowledge I shall now partake of just for you. Should you every get a green cheese in trivial pursuit from this, remember you owe me a beer. The baby will know the mothers voice. She will be able to recognise it, even tho she will not be able to recognise any other voice fully. Discovery channel, magic huh. OK how / why is this possible I hear you ask. I shall retort. Sound traveling through the female body vibrated through tissue, bone, fluids etc, where as from anyone else it have to travel through air, therefore distorting it before it hits the baby. The exception to this is bass sounds, which travel through air better, so the Da is sometimes recognised too. Feeling educated? There is a point to this.

After the hospital mentioned to us that we should bring our own music to play on the big stereo they have in the birthing suite, I got to work with my label machine and CD copier. I asked the 'inspiration of my life' about which tunes she would like to hears to drown out the sounds of blissful birth, 'you will never get near me again, you b**%$ son of a #$$%#' etc etc. I was given a list. Dolphin music is supplied by the hospital so no need for our volumes, but cello music in D minor or maybe the messiah would be relevant. All good choices. I got to work copying my 'Renegade' CD from 'Thin Lizzy' and thought to myself, 'well with that bass the wee lass will be able to hear it no problems and therefore bop along to it'. The next phase of getting all Fiona's CD stickers and steaming them off, to place them on copies of renegade proved to be a difficult. Perseverance is the key! Track one is 'Angel of death', hmmmmm.

'That does not sound like Mozart dear. 'Oh it is pumpkin, its just the gas you are on. Why only a few moments ago you thought you were the lizard queen!'

Sealing the music fate, I read an article on the RTE website about the hero of rock and the best band the world has every known. (Take a read.) I thought to myself that not only could I surprise 'the only reason for my existence' with this delightful tune but we could name our first born Phil-lyonetina in honour of the day. Her indoors may need some convincing, so if you could send her an email on this persuading her to my way of thinking, it would save on the rows thereafter.

Now I am into the panic of what type of parent I shall turn out to be. Of course there is worries about the child, but what about the friends? Will I turn into one of those people that is going to have every single conversation about the kid. 'Ah the baby spewed right into the stereo yesterday, it was so cute!' Oh lord....

Yesterday we went for checkup #3875 or so. Once again, baby and wife performed admirably, so no probs. So all going well, the big wait is on and will keep you updated!
